Hey Danby Bluegrass festival goers!!
Where do I start? I’m still on a Jenny Brook Festival high! Yep, festival season has officially started for me. Thanks to Candi and Seth Sawyer for such an awesome festival! Well, time is moving on, and I’ll soon be at Basin Bluegrass enjoying another before my work begins. I don’t know about you but I’m getting very excited for our 10th year! Ron Wood, if you’re looking down from the heavens, just see what you got started! This little festival was only going to be a Saturday afternoon affair – now look at us, we’re growing bigger and better every year! Ya know, it’s all you good people that support us that has made us grow. So all I can say is, “COME ON OUT AND ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE BUILT”!! You won’t be sorry!
I think the hay field will be mowed this weekend and when I get back from Brandon the light poles go up. My zero-turn mower will be hard at work making things look real good. Here’s a peek at what the hay field looks like before we transform it into a festival field! The stage still has it’s winter coat on but that will come off soon!
Tonya Powers is busy getting the Cookshack ready. I think she is going to open on Wednesday night this year, as I do believe we’ll have a lot of hungry campers there, just a pickin’ and a grinnin’!! So plan to come early, kick back and relax, and let Tonya and her crew do the cooking for you! She’s got a great menu at very reasonable prices.
Hey, variety is the spice of life, and we’ll have a little something for everyone who enjoys old country and bluegrass music. We get a lot of positive comments and requests to keep old country on our stage – and that we will! We have an excellent lineup this year – but you won’t know, if ya don’t come join us! Bands who will perform for you include: Bear Minimum, Beartracks, Borderline, Corey Zink & County Line, Dave Nichols & Spare Change, Feinberg Brothers, Just Passin’ Thru, LeBlanc Family, Phil Fletcher & the Westernaires, Seth Sawyer Band, and Troy Boone, Aaron Foster & Dreamcatcher. I can’t wait to see how Beartracks will better what they did to close out the festival last year! Tom Venne told me that we wouldn’t be disappointed – he’s a man of his word, so come join us to see what they’ve got planned for us this year!
We are dedicating our 10th anniversary festival to all veterans – past, present, and future. These men and women gave it all for our freedom, so we can do what we love. We have a special fundraising program planned to support a local veteran’s group called “Friends of Veterans”. This is an “all volunteer 501 (c) 3 organization comprised of veterans and non-veterans”. It’s mission is “to assist veterans and their families who reside in New Hampshire or Vermont and are in imminent danger of becoming homeless”. Our club president, Walt Teer, is a Marine veteran and he says this is a good outfit with 100% of donations going directly to the veterans. For more information about the organization, visit their website at http://www.fovvtnh.org/. The festival sponsor, Green Mountain Climbers, will purchase electronic candles to be sold for a small fee to festival goers wishing to participate in the fundraiser. For every candle sold, the Green Mountain Climbers will match sales dollar for dollar. There will also be a donation can for folks who would like to contribute. Let’s show these veterans that our old country & bluegrass community appreciates them! All proceeds will be given to Friends of Veterans…hopefully with a presentation to them on stage…on behalf of Green Mountain Climbers and Danby festival patrons. We are very patriotic in Danby and will always proudly fly the GREAT RED, WHITE, & BLUE over our stage!
The gates open Saturday, July 16th at 8:00AM for the early bird campers (weekend ticket purchase and $10.00 per campsite early bird fee required), so come early and stake out your claim. The host band, Just Passin’ Thru, is raring to go to kick things off at noon on Thursday. I’m excited to get the festivities started and I’m looking forward to seeing y’all there!!
TJ, the Danby Guy!
