TODAY’S FEATURED 2018 DANBY FESTIVAL BAND:
SMOKEY GREENE makes his home in New York and Florida. He has entertained audiences for over 50 years and is a legend in the Northeast.
Smokey has appeared with hundreds of performers over the years, including: Yodeling Slim Clark, Earnest Tubb, Merle Haggard, and Willie Nelson. Although officially retired, Smokey has come out of retirement to do local shows for his loyal fans.
Smokey grew up in a musical family and learned to play his first instrument, the tenor banjo, around age 13. By age 16 he had added guitar, mandolin, and fiddle. After 9 years in the US Air Force, he spent 20 years working radio, clubs, town and Grange halls, and appeared on various TV shows. He opened his own club and started his own bluegrass festival that enjoyed a 16-year run.
Smokey is a true pioneer in country music, favored for his smooth singing voice and the way he delivers the message of a song. When Smokey sings, he will have you crying one minute and laughing the next. We’re so pleased to welcome Smokey back to the Danby stage!
